GUWAHATI: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget for the year 2022-23, announced that the Government has launched a pilot project for the construction of bamboo link roads at different locations in various districts of Mizoram.
The Government has allocated Rs 100 crore for the completion of the project.
Bamboo link roads will be constructed in Mizoram as a part of the Government’s efforts to promote bamboo development projects.
The proposed roads are expected to improve connectivity in remote regions and help with transporting bamboo harvests. Earlier in December 2021, the Mizoram government had said that the roads would have a width of 18 feet with a 10 feet wide pavement.
The Rs 100 crore allocation has been made under the new Prime Minister’s Development Initiative For North East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, announced in the Union Budget on Tuesday. The Scheme will fund infrastructure and social development projects in the North East region, for which a total of Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated.
